Six tips to help you stick to your New Year’s resolutions
Keep it specific.
Setting specific, attainable goals for the New Year is crucial as it will give you a realistic plan of what you need to achieve. When goals are too ambiguous or unrealistic, it will be easier for you to become discouraged and discontinue pursuing your resolutions. It’s better to achieve success with several small steps over time than to give up when significant changes take time.
For example, rather than “eat healthier,” it will help to create a heart healthy meal plan that works best for you and your objectives. This will allow you to create meals that you actually enjoy and that coincide with your goals.
Plan it out!
As this change will take time, it will be essential to plan out the steps you need to take to accomplish your goals, alongside planning for anything that might come your way because life can get in the way. Good planning removes the excuse of being “too busy” and increases the odds of reaching your New Year goal.
For example, if your goal is to go to the gym three times a week, but you have a busy schedule. Make sure to take the time to either rearrange your schedule or block out a specific time during the day for the gym. It will make it easier to plan other activities around and help create a predictable routine to stick to.
Take small steps and be patient.
Be patient with yourself and your goals because radical changes to your current behavior can derail your plans; taking small steps makes achieving your goals more manageable and creates an aspiration for growth.
It is also essential to be prepared to face obstacles in your journey. Determination, consistency, and patience are crucial to keep in mind when reaching for your goals.
Use technology to guide you.
As technology is a massive part of our world, it is important to use it to its advantage. When it comes to helping you reach your goals, it is important to select devices and apps to see where you are with your progress to make the required changes in which route you need to take to achieve your goals.
